As the holidays approach and we reflect on the blessings we have received during the year, our minds and hearts turn to those most in need in our community. As has been the tradition for many years, the Community Services Program at United Way of Central Massachusetts is proud to bring you the 2009 Holiday Wish List as a way for you to help people in need, right here in central Massachusetts.

The Holiday Wish List offers a wide range of opportunities for businesses and individuals to support non-profit organizations that help children and families in our community. The list offers many opportunities for you to help: through donating gifts, volunteering at a holiday party, or creating food baskets for families. The opportunities are endless!

I'm looking forward to choosing a volunteer opportunity to do with my Marketing Department co-workers this year! Last year we went to the YWCA's Young Parent's Program; we made and wrapped some holiday snacks with the girls. They loved being able to make a gift for someone special in their lives. It was a fun way for us to spend a couple of hours together...away from our computers!

Thank you for sending me United Way’s Holiday Wish list. The list prompted my staff and I to replace our usual holiday Yankee Swap with a collection of toiletry items for the Veterans shelter on Grove Street. It was a big hit for us, and I’m sure appreciated by the shelter. So thank you for serving as the catalyst for this new idea – perhaps it will become a holiday tradition for us!
